What are the Building Blocks/simple forms of:
-Proteins
-Carbohydrates
-and Fats
Generally speaking proteins, carbohydrates, fats and nucleic acids are considered the macromolecules of life. Each of these macromolecules can be broken down into monomers which are the individual units (or "building blocks") of the macromolecules. Fats don't really have monomers (this term is reserved for macromolecules that have units that have strong chemical bonds between them) but they can be broken down into simpler forms, depending on what type of fat you are talking about.
Here I'm going to list a hierarchy of each of the macromolecules that will hopefully help you out. A
Proteins-->Amino acid = carboxyl group + amine + R group (The R group gives the amino acid it's special property and distinguishes amino acids from one another)
Carbohydrates-->monosaccaride (ex: glucose, fructose, ribose-the sugar associated with RNA)
Fats (phospholipid, the unit that makes up cell membranes)--> Phosphate group (head) +2 fatty acid tails (carbon-hydrogen chains)
Fats (in general; aka triglceryide) -->glycerol + 3 fatty acids
Nucleic acids-->sugar + phosphate "backbone" + nucleotide (A,T,C,G,U) RNA has ribose as the sugar and DNA has dioxyribose. A,C, and G are found in both RNA and DNA where as U is found only in RNA and T is found only in DNA.
