Marching Pep

There is a question I ask adults of all ages. What happened to your dreams? Most adults have stopped dreaming altogether. Long gone are the days they would daydreams of all of life's possibilities. Those days have been replaced with the nightmares of watered down hopes and a long line of broken promises.
Do You Remember?
Do you remember those feelings you got at the pep rallies and Friday night high school football games. It was electric. In the early 70's I was member of the marching band and we took to the field at halftime. The excitement was almost unbearable. As we marched and played the latest music (we were the music videos in those days) the people in the stands would erupted in cheers. It was 15 minute of sheer adrenaline. And every Friday night we got the chance to do it all over again.
In those days it seems we were protected from all the evils in the world. Our parents and teachers encouraged us to reach for the moon and we believed we could attain it. By the time we graduated from high school we were all pumped up. We got excited about being on our own because finally all we had dreamed of would now come true.
The Sad Truth
But something happened to us on the way to reaching our goals. We found out the world was not as kind and supportive of our dreams. When we finally reached corporate America, we got some hard lessons in reality. We found it to be a mean, dog eat dog, watch your back environment. Companies began to take advantage of us. And we found ourselves working long hour for very little pay. Then the light went off in our head. We discovered we were playing in a game we were ill equipped to play. All of a sudden what began as fun became drudgery. Many people found corporate America to be a place where dreams come to die.
Dreams Die Slowly
Most people can't tell you the exact day they actually stopped dreaming. You see dreams die slowly. Each day a little bit is taken out of the pie until one day (if not replenished) it is completely gone. The women and man on the street once dreamed big dreams. People in prison all started out with a noble dream. But somewhere along the way they gave up on those dreams. And with each passing year they lowered their sites until what they were aiming at was nothing.
How Bad Do You Want To Succeed?
If you want to succeed you have to get excited again. Dust yourself off and believe again. God has put in the human spirit the ability to bounce back from adversity. How bad do you want to succeed? Only you can make that determination. There is an old saying that I have come to cherish because it is true. It goes something like this "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear. Are you ready to change your life? Are you ready to dreams again? If you are then start looking for those people to appear in your life to help you succeed. The law of attraction says wherever you are looking for in life, is looking for you. If you are looking for success, then success is looking for you.
Summary
For so many adults their childhood dreams have be replaced with nightmares of watered down hopes and a long line of broken promises. I say don't ever give up on your dreams. If you want to win you have to dream again. So dust off your original dreams and chart a new course to make those dreams a reality.
