Indian book publishing industry is now in a life of its own. Prolific publishers of growth in cities has led thousands of books / Magazines produced in not only English but also other national / regional languages annually. Many of these publications are of great merit and valuable contribution to the preservation cultural, ethnic and linguistic pluralities of Indian society in mind. However, not all of them are easily accessible. Indeed, finding a book / Journals published by, say, a publisher in a remote village can be a difficult task for clients. And here is the importance of organizations such as DK. We in DK, in our beautiful talent and experience in this field, can find any title published in the country.
Beginning English-language books of the year we expanded our services include Sanskrit and Tibetan language books, and then those in all major Indian languages. We began cataloging books in Sanskrit language at the end of 1970 and added books in Hindi later. Today we receive nearly 15,000 books from India in all Indian languages. Indian languages in which we offer the following services:
Assamese
Bengal (published in both India and Bangladesh)
Gujarati
Hindi (various dialects)
Kannada
Malayalam
Marathi
Oriya
Punjabi
Sanskrit
Tamil
Telugu
Urdu (Publication of India and Pakistan)
All these books are cataloged in DK with the utmost care and attention at the same level of performance as we are cataloging the books in English, Sanskrit and Hindi. Cataloging is done in Romanised format using diacritics as in the ALA / LC Romanisation tables. Care is given to the work directory using the Classical Sanskrit uniform titles if necessary. Software in the DK supports MARC21 records from the original scripts of all these languages for large fields.
Our main concern is to provide our customers all the publications in any Indian / South Asian language major from the subcontinent. And this is our unique ingenuity comes to full view. There should be no surprise therefore that in the short term we need to expand our services and made an enviable place for itself among the service organizations at the global level.
We are proud that we now receive nearly 28,000 books, origin of South Asia each year. Many Tibetan language books to appear in India. DK began cataloging, that literature in 1980, and later began adding published in Bhutan as well.
